How to Measure
- Chest: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape level under your arms.
- Waist: Measure around your natural waistline, typically just above your belly button.
- Hips: Measure around the fullest part of your hips, keeping the tape level.
- Inseam: Measure from the top of your inner thigh down to your ankle.

Choosing Your Fit: Practical Tips Beyond the Tape Measure
Body measurements are only half the story. The other half is how a garment is cut, what it is made of and how you like to wear it. A few minutes spent comparing your measurements with a piece you already own can save you the hassle of an exchange later.
Measure a shirt you already love
Lay your favourite T-shirt or hoodie flat on a table and smooth out any wrinkles. Measure straight across the chest from armpit seam to armpit seam, then double the figure to get the full circumference. Next, measure the body length from the highest point of the shoulder down to the hem. Compare these numbers with the garment measurements on a product's size chart. This is often more reliable than body measurements alone, because it reflects the fit you already know you like.
Understand the cut
- Classic or unisex fit: straighter through the body with a little room. Most people take their usual size.
- Slim or fitted cut: narrower at the chest and waist. If you sit between sizes or prefer comfort, size up.
- Oversized or relaxed: designed to hang loose. Take your normal size for the intended look, or size down for a closer fit.
Allow for shrinkage
Cotton garments can shrink slightly after the first few washes, especially in hot water or a hot dryer. Blends with polyester tend to hold their shape better. To keep prints and fit in good condition, wash inside out in cold water and hang to dry, or tumble dry on low. Always check the care label, since instructions vary by fabric.
Think about how you will wear it
Planning to layer a tee under a jacket at an evening meetup, or wear a hoodie over a long-sleeve shirt during a cooler Austin winter? Leave yourself a little extra room. If the piece will mostly be worn on its own in the Texas heat, a lighter fabric and a true-to-size fit usually feels best.
