Security Talk, Responsible Disclosure and Moderation
Because Cyber Pirata is a security community, a few extra expectations apply beyond general good manners. Discussing attacks, malware and vulnerabilities is part of learning, but the line between education and harm matters. Share techniques in a defensive or research context, and never post live credentials, leaked personal data, working exploit kits aimed at real targets, or requests for help breaking into systems you do not own or have written permission to test.
Sharing indicators and findings
When you post indicators of compromise, suspicious domains or URLs, defang them (for example, write hxxp and replace dots with [.]) so nobody clicks by accident. Mention where the information came from and how confident you are in it. Unverified rumours about breaches spread quickly, so label speculation clearly. If you want broader context, our Threat Feed is a good starting point for comparing notes.
Found a vulnerability?
If you discover a flaw in a product, website or service, please do not post the details publicly in the server. Follow the vendor's disclosure process or a recognised coordinated disclosure approach first. You are welcome to talk about the general class of bug, your methodology or lessons learned once the issue is fixed.
Files, bots and links
- Do not upload executables, macro-enabled documents or archives without a clear warning and a reason; malware samples belong in dedicated research channels, password-protected.
- Only moderators may add bots or integrations.
- Shortened links should be expanded so others can see the destination.
How moderation works
Moderators usually start with a friendly reminder, followed by a warning, a temporary mute and, for serious or repeated issues, removal from the server. Severe breaches such as doxxing or distributing malicious files may lead to an immediate ban. If you see a problem, report it to a moderator privately rather than arguing in public channels. Questions about a decision can be raised calmly through direct message or our contact page.
Many conversations started online continue face to face, so keep an eye on our events for Austin meetups where the same spirit of respect applies.
